Cameron Sets Out The Election Choice

The Conservatives met in Brighton this weekend for their last gathering before the General Election. David Cameron set out some of the changes that could be expected from a Conservative Government. The essential message was a stark choice of 5 more years of Gordon Brown's tired government making things worse or David Cameron and the Conservatives with the energy, leadership and values to get the country moving.

An accompanying leaflet summarises the position:-

We can’t go on like this. Vote for change and:

1) Change the economy. Back aspiration and opportunity for all. Gordon Brown’s debt, waste and taxes are holding us back and threatening the recovery with higher interest rates. We need action now to cut the deficit, help keep mortgage rates low and get the economy moving.

2) Change society. Mend our broken society by encouraging responsibility and backing those who do the right thing. Make Britain the most family friendly country in Europe. Back the NHS, which matters more to families than anything. Reform education, with new schools - and standards and discipline for all. Tackle welfare dependency and the causes of
poverty.

3) Change politics. Give people more power and control. Sort out the mess of MPs’ expenses, cut Parliament, Whitehall and the cost of politics. Make politics more local, more transparent, more accountable.

Yes, but is Cameron a politicain or a salesman. Looking at the lack of policy explanations in his speech many will think it is the latter

Get behind the headlines and spin. There are good firm policies and
some aims and objectives to fit in with a clear vision of how to make change happen. Thanks to Iain Dale, here's a handy 11 point list to get you started:

1. Introduction of border police and a cap on immigration
2. A two year freeze on council tax
3. Abolish ID cards and roll back the big brother state
4. Reduce the number of MPs by 10% and cut the cost of politics
5. Allow parents to create their own schools
6. Restore the link between pensions and earnings
7. Repatriate powers from Europe
8. Stop Labour's NI rise which is a tax on jobs
9. Cut business taxes to encourage new small business start-ups
10. Give householders more rights to defend themselves against burglars
11. Abolish Inheritance tax for everyone except millionaires

'Yes, but you know this is all rubbish because Cameron and his "Tories" are all liars and brigands.

'Have you read Hitchens in The Mail on Sunday recently? I have and he doesn't like "The Tories". He says we need to go back to the 1950s and I agree with him because he says so.

'If you elect me in Belmont Ward I will personally tear up the Lisbon Treaty and bring back hanging. Because I am much more gobby than the so called "Tory Party". Anyone who disagrees with me is undoubtedly a "Tory stooge" and clearly doesn't work as hard as me in Belmont - you have no idea how knackering it is to collect your allowance each month.

'I shall continue to campaign to keep the Liberal Democrats in, because I figure the taxpayers of Sutton deserve 'em. As for Gordon Brown, I'll do my level best to return a Labour Government. All because I don't like the "Tory" party.

'Vote UKIP.'

Very droll, but hardly funny, not intelligent and typical "tory". If I didn't know I'd suspect you were either standing against me or a complete retard.

"Vote for change"? Cameron couldn't change a lightbulb. Let's start with "cast-iron guarantees" for a start. Vote for honesty more like.

Hey Paul - I like that. "Cap immigration and install border police". What hypocritcial nonsense. You know as well as I do, we will NEVER have control of our borders whilst the EU are in control of them. Your party lie their way through elections, because you are lying to the electorate. They are not silly. Cameron will not gain power because he is not only a liar, but he denies the man in the street so-called democracy. How about pushing him for a referenum (seeing as you were so keen on them at last night's council meeting) on the EU - IN OR OUT? The tories haven't got the guts.

Pickles does a much better Pickles parody than I ever could!

He might be a prat but he is wonderfully entertaining and predictable.
