Seb Coe Explodes at Cost of Olympics

This photo courtesy of the Press Association shows the fire near the Olympic site as shown from Westminster Bridge. With the 2012 stadium costing a cool £496,000,000 to build, no-one would have been surprised to hear "It costs how much?" echoing around Stratford as smoke poured from Seb's ears.

Yes, rather amusing. But I was in the public gallery the evening that a bunch of Lib-Dems from Islington were present, persuading councillors that the Olympics would be of benefit to Sutton, and not one Tory was against it.

Sarcasm is a hindsight thing.

I was only elected to Council in 2006 so was not at that meeting.

Personally, I am not against having the Olympics in London. This is a prestigious event that with proper organisation we can be proud of. However, I don't believe that Londoners should be milked to pay for the Games with the extra Council Tax being levied. As far as I can tell, Sutton will receive little or no extra benefit from the Games being hosted in Stratford, so I cannot see why we should pay more than, say, residents in Epsom.

Seb Coe is a Tory who is wasting millions of pounds of our money.

He should be sacked!

Exactly. Seb Coe is a typical Tory toff, just like Cameron. Let the workers pay for everything and end up with nothing.

In the usual attacks on Tories, one fact is missed. The Conservatives are not in power. Tessa Jowell has political responsibility for the costs of the Olympics, Gordon Brown was the Chancellor who insisted that Londoners should pick up the tab and Ken Livingstone said OK on behalf of you and me. They are all Labour politicians. The Olympic Delivery Authority is headed by the man who looked after Network Rail for the Labour Government. You have to go some way down the food chain to get to the appointees who are Tories.

Oh dear! Slagging off a fellow Tory? Now that won't do!
