After much speculation on our part and deliberation on his, Boris Johnson has confirmed that he is entering the race to become Mayor of London. He will now become hot favourite to be announced as the Conservative candidate at the Blackpool conference in October with the election against Ken Livingstone next May.This will kick-start the campaign with the Conservatives finally finding a candidate with a very high profile and experience in the media. We have several others that are more than capable of running London better than Livingstone, but Boris does have a considerable advantage in the campaign with his high name recognition.
I'm just waiting for the Boris v Ken debate with grand inquisitors Paul Merton and Ian Hislop.

Another shallow Tory with no policies and a buffoon to boot. If the Tories are serious about winning anything then they'll get serious and to grips with the problems of this country instead of pandering to the asylum-seeking softy bleeding-heart liberal brigade. Is Boris going to scrap the congestion charge then - or put it up to £10?
Not really a Churchillian debating point now Hubert. I won't be waiting for the UKIP mayoral candidates manifesto with baited breath. Last GLA election coincided with the European elections so bringing two Assembly Members in. They didn't last long, swapping parties on a regular basis.
Paul, I'm just worried that an MP who can't now make the Shadow Cabinet is deemed good enough to run for Mayor of London. Leaves an open goal to say that Cameron is contemptuous of Londoners. Should be fun, though...
